Description:
Munto is an anime series created by Kyoto Animation. The OVA was released in 2003 followed by a sequel in 2005. A television anime series titled Sora o Miageru Shojo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai as a remake of the OVAs began airing in Japan in January 2009.
Munto 1 - Akuto, the main source of energy is running low and the
Heavens, a world of islands, hidden beyond time, floating above ours, has united
against the Magical Kingdom whom uses the most energy. To save both the Magical
Kingdom and the Heavens and restore the flow of akuto, the Magical King Munto
must follow a vision and find the girl Yumemi in the lower world. Yumemi herself
is just a normal girl except that she is the only one who can see the islands of
the Heavens floating above. When Munto appears before her she starts thinking
about hers and others responsibility to the world.
Munto: Toki no Kabe o Koete / Munto 2 - Yumemi and Munto's roles are
reversed in this OVA; Yumemi longs to overcome her earlier weakness and help
Munto, but Munto won't risk calling her into his war. Unknown to Munto, though,
he's not the only one who needs her power -- and certain others are not nearly
so worried about risking her life. Eventually Munto re-enters Yumemi's world,
but only after Gass forcefully sends him there, in need of her assistance
whether or not he wants to admit it or not. Ichiko plays a bigger role in this
OVA, fearfully trying to keep Yumemi a part of her life by pressuring her to
forget about the sky she herself has once seen and stay with her friends. Yumemi
however, becomes worried and scared as her visions slowly make her realize the
vastness of the situation and she despairs at what she should do, all the while
losing herself more and more to staring off into space. Finally however, at the
moment of crisis when the Heavenly Kingdom begins to fall once more, Yumemi
finds Munto and convinces him to accept her help, and with a last goodbye to her
friends, they take to the skies together toward the Magical Kingdom.
